Hannay Lane Enhancement Group

About the HLEG

The Hannay Lane Enhancement Group is a subcommittee of the DPA that is keen to see the revitalisation of Hannay Lane in the Dunsborough CBD.

Hannay Lane is a laneway in the Dunsborough CBD that provides a through-way for vehicles, access for servicing businesses and a pedestrian link between Naturaliste Terrace and Dunn Bay Road. Some shop fronts exist on the laneway, and there is a green space at Yallingup Coffee Company and the Dugalup Brook reserve, the latter which includes a dual use pathway connection to Dunsborough foreshore. However, the laneway is dominated by windowless rear sides of shops, bins, large blank walls and disproportionately expansive areas of bitumen for road and parking. This results in an uninviting space for pedestrians.

Our objective is the enhancement of Hannay Lane using the principles of placemaking; ‘turning empty spaces we avoid into places where people love to meet, relax and enjoy life’. This will be achieved by improving amenity, with the aim of attracting people and adding vibrancy to the space and enhancing business in the laneway and surrounding areas.

To this end we have organised the popular annual Hannay Lane Street Party, supported by the City of Busselton and Dunsborough/Yallingup Chamber of Commerce, to engage the local community with otherwise largely unutilised space.

We are continuing to engage with local businesses and the community, with support from the City, to make this dream come alive!
